12 Rare Crested Victorian Queen's Pattern Single Struck Dessert Forks 625g Benjamin Smith, London 1844. The pattern is Queen's Rosette - a design in which the lower ends of the flanking scrolls meet the centre of the rose. Rare and very elegant, this splendid set of early Victorian dessert forks is by the renowned and well-documented maker Benjamin Smith. All are in excellent condition with no splits, fractures or distortions and no signs of any repairs.

The tines are full length with absolutely minimal wear. The normal fine surface scratches, consistent with age and use, are present but the polish is high and they are in clean and useable condition. All are identically crested to the rear of the finials with a Crown surmounted by an Ox.

Both the hallmarks and the crest would therefore be visible in the table setting when the forks would be placed with their tines downward. They have a combined weight of 625g / 20 Troy ounces. All bear the makers' mark BS in the rectangle followed by clear four-part hallmarks consisting of the Lion Passant, the Head of Queen Victoria, the Crowned Leopard's Head and Tudor upper-case date code letter "I" (London 1844) All marks are sharp and clear and are identical on all the forks.

There have been no erasures. Each spoon measures 6.75 / 17cm in length. This is a rare chance to acquire such a perfect set of 12 early Victorian dessert spoons in this delightful pattern.
