Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Coffee Pot Queen Anne Style 1891, 556g

Lovely Victorian sterling silver coffee pot in the Queen Anne style standing 240mm tall. Made by Walter and John Barnard of London in year'Q' , 1891.

Oval pedestal foot rising to an oval fluted pot. Above the convex fluting the silver runs plain into the spout and with a sloping step to the lid. The oval lid is domed, fluted and terminates in a circular wooden finial with a central silver bead in the form of a chess pawn. The pot is fitted with the original plain angular wood handle topped with a plain scroll thumb-piece. The pot has no inscriptions or monograms.

Inside the foot reads: ROSSI NORWICH' a'P' and the number 171. Superb gauge of silver at 566g.

The hallmarks are rubbed and the makers mark more so. The makers mark shows a partial'w' with a partial'b' and a'j'. Together, and in the shield, they identify the makers as Walter and John Barnard. Visible pinprick dents and cosmetic scratches to the plain/smooth silver. Some minor superficial cracking at the handle joints.

The hinge is in good condition and the lid closes securely and evenly. The foot of the pot has a concussion bend/warp from impact. This is visible (pictured) and gives the foot a slight rock.

The pot is too beautiful to scrap. It is not going to be a museum or collectors piece but in this quality of silver and workmanship it will last a lifetime. A silversmith might straighten the pedestal foot a little. Item is insured, tracked and signed for.
