The lower portion of this 18th century silver porringer bowl is embellished with chased alternating fluted decoration accented with engraved foliate motifs. The upper portion is encircled with a chased rope twist decorated girdle flanked with engraved foliate motifs. The decoration to the front incorporates a vacant cartouche bordered with scale motif diaper pattern and large scrolling designs and is. Fitted with two cast S scroll handles.It is in excellent antique condition with a lovely patina and no damage, dings or repairs, the vacant cartouche has no erasures and it has no later engravings unlike most early porringers that come onto the market today. The hallmarks are good although the London and Britannia mark are a little rubbed.
