It bears an engraving of the Queens Royal Regiment badge, a haloed sheep bearing the George Cross standard and underneath the following inscription. The Gift of the Headquarters Staffs of the 6th London Brigade and 2nd London Division Territorial Force. To Capt & Mr F. We were able to learn very little about Captain Hargan other than he was an infantryman who, in his service in India as a corporal, according to military record, passed his Standard Examination of the Hindustani Language. The trophy is a smart and sizeable gift it has a good deep bowl , a central band and large fluted, decorative handles. On the reverse, it is stamped with the Fordham & Faulkner makers mark, the Crown for Sheffield, the lion passant for the silver standard and the date letter q for 1908. It comes with its original ebonised wood stand. On its plinth it measures 7 and a half inches tall (19 cm) , 10 inches wide at the handles (25.5 cm) and the bowl is 5 inches deep (12.7 cm) with a 5 and a half inch diameter at its mouth (14 cm). The base has a diameter of 4 inches (10 cm). It weighs 0.665 kg. There is one tiny spot of tarnishing on the edge of the foot (actually less prominent than it was when photographed).
There is one slight sign of impact crush on the base (pictured). Otherwise, this is in wonderful condition and will polish up an absolute treat!
